Moving To Ireland

Geez-Corrections Officers start out at 45K and goes to 90K REGARDLESS of security level. I was also floored to learn that C/Os in other states aren't exposed to CS gas and OC spray unless they are in Special Ops. We are getting SCREWED-lol.
If you are curious about the field, there's a cool group on Myspace that I am on called Law enforcement, Cops,Police, Sheriff, and Corrections. It makes for some interesting reading.

My sister-in-law is pulling down about 50k a year as a new deputy sheriff in Fairfax right here in good old Va.

We're just cheap labor around here and business knows it.

I don't think it'd be much of a switch to go to Ireland. Those prisons over there are hell holes, extremely violent, and that's not even dealing with the IRA sections that are incarcerated.

Hell, I put up with that now for about 26K. Seriously though, alas I cannot leave this area (at least until my kids are grown). If I could though...

$50K per year in Fairfax isn't exactly the same as $50K in Wise County. Granted a person can live on it, but not the same as a person can live on $50K here.

At $50K you get a monthly bring-home of maybe $2800 tops (if you don't pay insurance premiums or participate in retirement plans).

In Fairfax County a 1 bedroom 700 sq ft apartment in a decent neighborhood often runs about $1200+ a month(can search this at apartments.com).

I think they've got you beat. Constant riots, inmate killings, guard killings on a frequent basis.

She lives in Manassas Park and is buying a townhouse. Payments are rather substantial but she is still doing very, very well.

Already taken two nice vacations and seems to have plenty of disposable cash.

Disposable cash is money you can afford to spend however you want or wish. For me that's about $1.12 per week.
